They can be used to replace some or all of the teeth in the upper or lower dental arch, and they can even be combined with dental implants for added stability and comfort. There are two main types of dentures: complete and partial.
Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth in the upper or lower dental arch need to be replaced. Partial dentures are recommended when some healthy teeth remain and include a thin framework or clasps to anchor to the natural teeth and ensure a secure and stable fit. Dentures can also be anchored on implants to provide greater stability.
When you receive dentures, plan on having several appointments with our dentist. The process of creating dentures is somewhat lengthy as we want to ensure that your appliance fits and functions perfectly, though most dentures can be designed, created and fitted in a maximum of five appointments.
During your first visit, our dentist will examine your mouth and determine which type of dentures will be most effective for you. An impression will be taken from which your dentures will be designed. Depending on your needs, you may require multiple appointments before receiving the completed dentures or our dentist may create the dentures immediately and then adjust them as your mouth heals. We will check your dentures at each of your regular appointments to ensure that they are in good condition and are functioning properly. Please be aware that your dentures may periodically require maintenance, such as relines, rebasing or repairs, in order to remain in good condition.
